I am over 3 weeks out. I need to exercise the bend in my knee. One of the exercises they give you is heel slides which are very painful for me. I thought this board with wheels would help it easier to move the foot back and forth.

Yes, this makes it easier. I first tried it on a low carpet. It pulled my knee sideways. So I thought a flat surface would be better but that was worse. They need to re-design the wheels. They swival to go all the way around and they move the board from side to side.

It is very painful. The wheels need to be fixed so they only go straight ahead and straight back. It is sturdy, the velcro straps are great but a bit long. The straps to pull the board are adjustable and work well. With tweaking this product has great potential to be a great medical device but I wasted my money on this for what I needed it for.

Worked great. See more reviews. About this item. Product information. Back to top. Conditions of Use Privacy Notice Your Ads Privacy Choices © , Amazon. com, Inc.

Running Recovery Tools Glossary

Recovery support tools and resources include:. Through its engagement with key stakeholders, SAMHSA developed the following working definition of recovery:. Recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.

This definition does not describe recovery as an end state, but rather as a process. Complete symptom remission is neither a prerequisite of recovery nor a necessary outcome of the process.

Recovery can have many pathways that may include professional clinical treatment; use of medications; support from families and in schools; faith-based approaches; peer support; and other approaches.

There are four major dimensions that support a life in recovery:. Mono Bar Official websites use. Neeraj Gandotra, M. Kurt John, Ed. Brian Altman, J. It provides a combination of compression and pressure point therapy to assist you in hitting points the way a sports massage therapist would, which will help to alleviate pain and increase range of motion.

This is another device I tested this year, which surprised me. It includes rechargeable batteries with good battery life. A TENS is a Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation device. The muscle stimulator sends electrical stimulation to the muscles through electrode pads.

This AUVON device can do both electrical muscle stimulation EMS and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation TENS , which are two different treatments.

Electric muscle stimulation EMS is a type of physical therapy that involves the passage of electrical currents through your soft tissue, which includes your skin, fascia, and muscle tissue.

These currents are thought to block pain signals from the body to the brain, improve blood circulation, and enhance muscle fibers, implying that they increase performance or strength.

With 24 modes and 20 levels of intensity, and 24 preprogrammed massage modes, this device has something for everyone at every stage of the muscle recovery journey. You can use the lower settings when your muscles are extremely tender and increase them when they are less sore. They are amazing.

So many of you love them and swear by them, but they have never felt good to me. Also way easier to travel with tights! I LOVE these tights because the way they put bands into the tights creates support around the knee and IT Band, which I adore for long runs.

It can help with soreness and swelling, aiding your recovery process. They provide some additional support as I increase my mileage, meanwhile, at home, I pull on some other lighter compression pants for recovery. I remember a few years ago having a chiropractor use this tool on my ankle a few days prior to a race and it felt dramatically better.

As we all know running recovery goes well beyond what we do to our muscles, but still…these are fun!! After this post, I started to think more about the Graston technique that my chiropractor often did in his office and it made me wonder could it be done effectively at home?? Proprioception means an awareness of how our body is moving through space, which is pretty epically did I make that word up?!

Better awareness means more speed, agility and less injuries. This technique, like cupping, has been around for ages, but is only starting to get more attention again recently. No matter what we call it, I love the idea of taking recovery in to my own hands and not needing to go anywhere to get the results.

Solr Mobile Search. Share Buttons. Verdict: Practising non-vigorous yoga may increase sleep duration and quality, a goal worth pursuing as sleep is a fundamental pillar of recovery. Once the moves are learned, you can practise at no cost. The theory: Percussive massage guns are a relatively recent development in the fitness industry.

They mimic deep-tissue massage by pummelling one small area of muscle at a time. The contact point can either be moved around the whole length and breadth of the muscle or focused on specific areas of tightness.

The evidence: Scientific studies into the effectiveness of massage guns on performance, flexibility and range of movement have found effects comparable to those of deep-tissue massage.

The greatest benefit seems to be in reducing muscle soreness. This effect may be a short-term gain in the early stages of muscle activity, but the longer-term effects are now being studied. Verdict: May be worthwhile to treat soreness after a core exercise routine.

The theory: Ice is often recommended as an immediate treatment for soft-tissue injuries, on the grounds it reduces inflammation and speeds up recovery. Ice baths are thought to promote recovery by stimulating blood flow, getting more oxygenated blood into recovering tissues, which may improve waste removal and reduce inflammation.

Supporting evidence: The injury healing benefits of ice have been debunked. When injured, the body sets off a process that removes damaged tissue.

A number of studies have found that ice blocks the signals required to set off this process. The jury is out on the role of ice baths in promoting recovery, although there are other health and fitness benefits from cold water immersion.

One study on ice baths conducted at the University of Queensland in Australia found a negative impact on muscle adaptation. Twenty-one subjects went through strength training workouts twice per week.

The warm-down group showed greater strength gain than the ice bath group. The theory: Stretching can be classed as a neuromuscular treatment.

The theory goes, it aids recovery by helping to reduce post-exercise soreness. The feel-good factor after stretching can have a positive mental effect too. The theory: Protein is needed to repair muscle fibres after training, and the sooner you can ingest some after exercise, the better.

Shakes are a portable, palatable and convenient way of ingesting 20g of protein immediately after exercise. Protein shakes -also known as recovery drinks - use easily digestible forms of protein such as whey.

The evidence: Surprisingly, given how widely used protein shakes are in world class sport, the evidence supporting their post-exercise recovery benefits is not clear-cut.

What is clear about how much protein you need as a cyclist is that consuming 1. After exercise, your body is capable of metabolising up to 40g of protein in a single sitting, so the g per serving typical for protein shakes is well within the limit. Then again, do you really need processed sports products?

This results in a bigger overall training load, and greater fitness gains. In stage races, speedy recovery is one of the keys to success.

The theory: Fish oils have been shown to help reduce inflammation, so may help you recover from training. They also play a part in maintaining gut health and contain Vitamin D, which is involved in hormone regulation and immune function , and is essential for healthy bones and teeth.

The evidence: In some studies, a reduction in post-exercise muscle soreness has been observed in subjects taking fish oils. Recovery aids that work on a metabolic level are the most effective and provide the greatest value.

Deep-tissue massage , including massage guns, have been shown to promote recovery not just by helping to remove toxins and reducing adhesions in muscle fibres, but also by promoting relaxation and therefore sleep. I can tell them they are in good condition, which is good for morale.

Massage guns are also well worth considering and could save you money in the long term. Join now for unlimited access.
